Why Are They Called Spider Cranes
The mini cranes, or more actively known as “spider” cranes, are essentially named after a spider through their uncanny resemblance to one when outriggers are extended. When the crane is up and ready to go, the outriggers help balance and position the crane to admirably assist with any job-hire requirement.
Spider cranes are ideal for moving materials around in tight spaces, thanks to their thin legs and body that allow excellent application to compact areas. The arms perfectly extend outward from the centre and then retract when completed the job, making them great for moving materials around in warehouses or even on building sites, through the reachable ability it provides.

- SuperCrane PH-285
The smallest of the fleet packs a mighty punch, being only 750mm wide when stowed and weighing just 1720kg. The Preston Hire 285 combines a small and agile build with a massive 2.82 tonne lifting capacity to make light work of heavy loads in confined areas, perfect for any spider crane hire.
Our 285 spider crane is constantly working to help with any crane hire needs. A highlight of its work would be with a job with Naylor Love, to help construct Newlands College.
- SuperCrane PH-405
The spider crane 405 is a mid-size crane of our fleet, that is just 1380mm wide when stowed, weighs only 5720kg and delivers an outstanding 3.83 tonne lifting capacity. This fantastic crane offers exceptional manoeuvrability and flexibility.
Working with Daifuku, is a key example of this spider crane’s incredible lifting capabilities. The limited space and specific lifting requirements allowed SuperCrane 547 to be the perfect machine for the job!
- SuperCrane PH-815
The largest spider crane of the fleet is a powerhouse machine with a huge 8 tonne lift capacity. This crane offers a useful pick and carry capacity of up to 1000kg and is packed with the latest technology for safe and efficient lifting.
A focal job with Sika is a crucial representation of our SuperCrane 815 continuously hard at work. Our crane successfully assisted with this unique job, by providing great lifting capacity and long-arm reach.
